I go to an event where I live called Umlaut, and there was just a band playing there tonight called red this ever.  A few months ago, another band called Black Tape for a Blue Girl played there as well.  I had been working on a separate small mod project then, and have asked both about using their music.

Red This Ever is relatively new,  and are under the genre synthpop.  When I asked tonight, the frontman told me he would ask his bandmates, but it seemed like a wholehearted yes.

Black Tape is a little more high quality in my opinion, but I didn't get a straight out answer from them.  The lead singer from this band told me I could contact him about it though. Black Tape for a Blue Girl is an American darkwave band formed in 1986.

Hope this helps Smiley   Grin Grin

Sounds great to me.

Licensing policy might be the only problem in case they don't want to release any contributions under our asset license of choice: CC BY-SA 3.0:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/

Our asset license permits commercial usage of the assets as long as attribution is given and the modified asset is released under CC BY-SA as well.

I still have a dream of getting permission to put in real hit songs from the 1980s in the game.

What songs/bands would you add if you would have the permission?

I would have different themes in the game -> different 80s subgenres

(pop, new wave, hair-band metal, punk, "soul" -- what is now called hip-hop)

But here is a hilarious list:

I also have an idea (not wikified I think) to have the PC find a Sony walkman (tm) and periodically find cassette tapes of "contemporary" 80s hits.  Listening to them would of course, relieve stress points... but only if you picked music "suited" to your PCs "game personality".

I'd prefer just some ambient tracks.

Not even an 80s track, but in an impossible dream world I'd have to put forward Johnny Cash's 'Thunderball'.

The idea of having a triumphant, upbeat song about a hero successfully stopping a nuclear war playing seems to me wonderfully, brutally ironic.
