Yay or nay?

Could provide interesting way to allow freeform exploration but also to provide a short-term "locked door" to encourage players to do proper investigation of an area. Useful storytelling device too.

However, how much extra tiling work/world map work would have to go on and how much use are seasons?

There was quite some discussion about seasons at the forums AFAIR. A quick search leads to a bunch of results, including this thread:

AFAIR the general consensus was that we might want to integrate seasons as a gameplay element but that an actual visual representation of these seasons in map view is rather unlikely as it will vastly increase the number of graphical assets that we'll need to create for PARPG.
