A link for links:
http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=202348
This is a thread at the Gamedev.net forums. Good lord, in the past few yers i think I downloaded and tried at least 75% of the programs listed there..
Two packages I was thinking of:
Art of illusion- Free and complete. Due to a bug it couldn't render true isometric, I hope they fixed it.
Milkshape 3d. It costs about 20/25 Euro, it's a modeller/skeletal animator and can import/export all the formats you can think of. They say it's worth the price just using as a format handler.
Border, please remember about XSI Mod Tool/GMax license issues.
Oh, another thing about XSI MT. Don't think you can simply jump in it and start making stuff just becouse it's free.. Apart from rendering abilities it has the same tools of the commercial counterparts. You need some serious training to be able to operate it.

wow sirren thanks for the link.
The point of this thread is just to show opportunity linked with PARPG so i think i'll have to remove Gmax and XSI ModTool

I'll add Art of illusion and Milkshape to the list

Nice work border :-) I think this list would be a great addition to the graphics department section of the wiki:
http://wiki.parpg.net/Department:Graphics

Do any of you have prior wiki editing experience?

Oki, thanks for your understanding. Sometimes it feels offensive to people when their contributions get slightly edited / reformatted so I wanted to make sure that you're cool with it.
